One Policy for Every Trip in the Year
Annual multi-trip travel insurance covers an unlimited number of trips within a 12-month period, up to a maximum duration per trip (commonly 30, 45 or 60 days), rather than insuring a single trip at a time.
Who It Actually Suits
It makes clear financial sense for anyone taking three or more trips a year — frequent business travellers, people with family overseas they visit regularly, or anyone who takes several short breaks rather than one long annual holiday. For a single once-a-year trip, a standard single-trip policy is usually cheaper.
The Maximum Trip Duration Trap
The most commonly missed detail is the per-trip duration cap — if your annual policy caps trips at 30 days but you take one 6-week overseas trip that year, that trip may not be fully covered (or covered at all) under the annual policy, even though your other shorter trips are fine. Check this cap against your longest planned trip, not just your average trip length.
What's Usually Included as Standard
Most annual multi-trip policies include unlimited trips domestically and internationally (subject to the per-trip cap), though higher-risk add-ons like cruise or snow sports cover are still often separate, exactly as they would be on a single-trip policy.
Doing the Maths
Compare the annual premium against the total cost of buying single-trip cover for each planned trip that year — if you're not confident you'll travel three-plus times, or your trips vary wildly in length, single-trip cover quoted individually can still work out cheaper and more precisely matched to each trip.
